Welcome to ShieldDNS. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy will inform you as to how we look after your personal data when you use our mobile application (the "App") and tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you.

Core Philosophy: ShieldDNS does not track, log, or sell your browsing data. We are a utility to change your device's DNS settings, and we act purely as an intermediary to route your queries to your chosen DNS provider.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

We believe that your internet traffic is your business. We specifically DO NOT collect:

  • Your IP address
  • DNS queries or browsing history
  • Connection timestamps or session durations
  • Bandwidth usage
  • Device identifiers (IMEI, MAC address)

3. Data We Do Collect

To operate and improve the App, we collect only the absolute minimum required data:

  • Crash Reports: If the App crashes, we may collect anonymous crash logs (e.g., stack traces, OS version) to help us fix bugs. This data is stripped of personally identifiable information.
  • App Settings: Your preferences (e.g., selected DNS server, dark mode toggle, split tunneling configuration) are stored locally on your device and are never sent to our servers.

4. Third-Party DNS Providers

When you use ShieldDNS, your DNS queries are sent directly to the DNS provider you have selected (e.g., Cloudflare, Google, Quad9, or a Custom IP). Each of these providers has their own privacy policy regarding how they handle DNS queries. We strongly recommend reviewing the privacy policy of your chosen DNS provider.

5. App Permissions

The App requires certain permissions to function:

  • VPN Service (VpnService): Android requires us to use the VpnService API to route your DNS requests without requiring root access. We do not use this to create a remote VPN tunnel; all traffic routing is handled locally on your device to intercept and redirect DNS queries.
  • Network Access: Required to send DNS queries to the internet and perform speed tests.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
